Rovex Handheld Thermal Camera 256*192@12um
The Nocpix Rovex Handheld Thermal Camera is a strikingly different thermal imaging camera from the traditional thermal imager. Read more
Instead of looking through a small eyepiece, you view the thermal image directly on a large 5-inch touchscreen. This allows you to quickly scan a larger area, and it is also easy to view the image together with someone else.
Nocpix developed the Rovex primarily for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, and wildlife observation. The thermal imaging camera helps you find animals at times when it becomes difficult to spot with the naked eye. Think of birds among branches and bushes, wildlife in tall grass, or animals that are barely visible during twilight.
In addition, the Rovex is primarily a search aid. You use thermal imaging to quickly determine the location of an animal. Subsequently, you can switch back to your binoculars, spotting scope, or camera for identification and viewing fine details.
Large 5-inch screen for comfortable searching
The large screen is one of the most important differences compared to a traditional thermal imager. You do not have to constantly hold the camera to one eye, but can scan the landscape in a relaxed manner via the screen.
That makes the Nocpix Rovex interesting when searching for birds or wildlife for extended periods. The screen also offers a clear advantage when you are out with multiple people. You can immediately point out where a heat source is visible, without everyone having to look through the same eyepiece individually.
The LCD screen has a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels and a size of 5 inches. Operation is largely via the touchscreen, while important functions remain accessible via physical buttons.
384×288 high-sensitivity thermal sensor
The Rovex features a 384×288 thermal sensor with a pixel pitch of 12 µm. With a NETD of up to 25 mK, the camera can distinguish relatively small temperature differences.
This is particularly interesting in natural environments. After all, an animal does not always stand freely against a cold background. Temperature differences can be small among leaves, tree trunks, reeds, and bushes. It is precisely there that a sensitive sensor helps to distinguish a heat source more clearly from its surroundings.
Additionally, the 50 Hz frame rate ensures smooth playback when you move the camera or follow a moving animal.
Wide field of view with 15 mm F0.8 lens
For the Rovex, Nocpix has chosen a 15 mm F0.8 lens. In combination with the sensor, this creates a wide field of view of approximately 17.5° × 13.1°.
That choice fits well with the purpose of this thermal imaging camera. The Rovex is not designed to provide maximum magnification at extreme distances, but rather to efficiently scan a larger area.
With the wide view, you can scan a forest edge, reed bed, or patch of grassland relatively quickly, for example. As soon as you find something, a digital magnification of 1 to 4x is available to view the heat source more closely.
Specifically developed for birds and nature observation
Nocpix has added various features specifically aimed at searching for animals. For instance, the Rovex features viewing modes for Standard, Birding, and Rain & Fog.
In Birding mode, an attempt is made to bring potential heat sources more clearly to the fore while suppressing cooler background information. This can be helpful when a bird is partially hidden among leaves, branches, or reeds.
In addition, the Rovex uses technologies such as R+ Super Resolution, Smart Image Denoising, and Smart Target Highlighting. This image processing is intended to make thermal details more visible and reduce distracting background noise.
Furthermore, the camera can automatically track detected targets. This means you do not have to constantly monitor the location of a heat source within the frame yourself while searching.
Interesting during twilight and difficult conditions
Thermal imaging does not depend on visible light. As a result, you can use the Nocpix Rovex both during the day and in the dark.
For nature lovers, the added value lies primarily at moments when ordinary optics become less effective. During the early morning, at dusk, or in dense bushes, animals may be present without you seeing them directly.
A thermal imaging camera makes temperature differences visible and can thus help to locate an animal first. Especially when searching for birds among vegetation, this can save a lot of searching.
According to Nocpix, a small target of approximately 20 × 20 centimeters can be detected up to about 90 meters under suitable conditions. This provides a good indication of the use for which the Rovex was developed: not only finding large game, but specifically tracking relatively small animals and birds.
Easily capture photos and videos
Found an interesting observation? With the Rovex, you can record both photos and videos. 64 GB of internal storage is available for this purpose.
Furthermore, the thermal imaging camera can be connected to the Nocpix app via Wi-Fi. This makes it easier to view, transfer, or share images.
Thanks to the large screen, the Rovex is also interesting during excursions or when observing with others. A detected bird or other animal can be immediately shown to the rest of the group.
Lightweight design for field use
Despite the large screen, the Nocpix Rovex remains remarkably light. Without an external battery, the camera weighs less than 290 grams.
The housing consists of a metal frame with a rubber grip and is protected against dust and water according to IP66. This makes the camera suitable for regular outdoor use, so you do not have to immediately interrupt your observation in the event of a rain shower.
The Rovex uses a replaceable 21700 Li-ion battery for power. With one battery, the maximum operating time is approximately four hours, depending on temperature and usage, among other factors.
Who is the Nocpix Rovex suitable for?
The Nocpix Rovex Handheld Thermal Camera is particularly interesting for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts who want to use thermal imaging to find animals faster.
The large screen and wide field of view make it very different to use compared to a classic thermal imaging monocular. This concept really comes into its own, especially when actively scanning an area or observing together with others.
Are you looking for maximum magnification to view game at very long distances in detail using thermal imaging? Then there are thermal imagers with longer focal lengths that are better suited for this.
The strength of the Rovex lies precisely in fast searching, a broad overview, and user-friendly viewing. You find the animal's location using thermal imaging and then switch to your regular optics for further observation.
